    Current educational status.

Third (3rd) Year Medical Student at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science.

Something I loved about being part of the STEM Program.

The STEM program laid the foundation for my success in science courses and broadened my perspective on how I could contribute as a community college student in the Los Angeles area. One of the most impactful experiences was participating in the Summer Research Initiative (SRI) at UCLA and Santa Monica College. That engaging summer sparked my passion for wet lab research and created lifelong memories with peers and mentors.

I later continued my research journey in Cognitive Science through the Honors Program at UC San Diego. Between my first and second year of medical school, I was accepted into the Cancer Prevention Summer Research Program at MD Anderson Cancer Center—the nation’s top-ranked cancer hospital—where I conducted research in the Department of Neurological Surgery.

The mentors I’ve met throughout these experiences have played a pivotal role in guiding me on my path toward becoming a physician-scientist dedicated to serving underserved and under-resourced communities.

A resource or support program that help you in your transition from the community college to your transfer university.

One of the most important resources I used is the Science Learning Research Center, where I could use the Anatomy models and sit with friends to complete assignments.

What is it like to now work in your field?

I am a 3rd year medical student at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science. I love being in the OR and meeting incredible researchers in the field of Neurosurgery.

    Any advice?

Do not listen to the nay-sayers and trust the process!

Any STEM Shortcuts/hacks you can share?

Learn when to ask for help and adapt to your learning environments. Don't be discouraged by rejection; it only takes one person to change your course.

If you had to give advice to yourself when you first started at SMC, what would you say?

Enjoy your time at SMC and make memories!

Outside of STEM and related activities, what do you enjoy doing?

I love going out and exploring new restaurants.
