James Bergman is a double bassist who is active in classical and contemporary music in Southern California performing regularly with the Los Angeles Opera and the Santa Barbara Symphony. He has performed at the Other Minds Festival in San Francisco. the Kitchen’s Gruppen Festival and the Bang on a Can Festival in New York, and with the Composers Ensemble at Princeton. Recordings in a variety of genres are on DreamWorks, Rough Trade, Sire, Cuneiform, Crammed/Made to Measure, Les Disques Du Crepuscule, and IRS labels. Recent releases include Christopher Roberts’ Trios for Deep Voices (Cold Blue Music), John Corigliano’s opera Ghosts of Versailles with the Los Angeles Opera (Pentatone), and Josh Groban’s Stages Live (Reprise). A graduate of the Juilliard School, Professor Bergman began teaching at Santa Monica College in 2005, joining the faculty full time in 2017.
