As a longtime English instructor at Santa Monica College, Professor Hamada believes that writing is not just a skill to master but a way of seeing the world. With graduate degrees in English/writing and film production, he blends composition, rhetoric and critical thinking with imagination and artistry in his classroom.

Since the early 1990s, Professor Hamada has been tutoring and teaching college-level writing: at Palomar College, CSU San Marcos, CSU Chico, Butte College and Urawa Tandai (a private college in Japan, where he lived for over two years). USC film school brought him back to California, and he's been teaching writing at SMC for the past 14 years. In addition to teaching, Professor Hamada serves as faculty advisor for the SMC Writers Club, is a mentor teacher with Men of Color Action Network (MOCAN), and chairs the college's Honor Council. He is passionate about helping students grow as writers - sharpening their arguments, deepening their analysis, and discovering their own voices.
