Ethan Pines is an award-winning commercial, editorial and fine-art photographer who grew up on a small ranch in Los Angeles. After heading east for college (U. Penn) and graduate school (Columbia), he returned to Los Angeles in 1999 to pursue photography, taking two years of courses at Santa Monica College, where he is now an adjunct instructor.
He has shot ad campaigns for Genentech, Dolby, Ubisoft, Universal Studios and others. Editorial clients include Forbes, Wired, The New York Times, Los Angeles Magazine and The Wall Street Journal. Over the past 13 years of shooting monthly for Forbes, he has captured some of the most iconic portraits of our time, including the infamous photo of Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes holding a small vial of blood.
Ethan’s fine-art work includes group exhibitions and a solo show. He’s been honored many times by the Communication Arts Photo Annual, the Graphis Photography Annual, the American Photography Annual and the International Photography Awards. An Eagle Scout and a Nitrox-certified scuba diver, he lives in Topanga Canyon with owls, spiders, his family and a bunch of weeds.
