Rebecca Romo joined the SMC faculty in the Fall of 2014. She received her Ph.D. in sociology at the University of California Santa Barbara, after earning a bachelor’s degree at California State University Sacramento. Her research focused on mixed-race experiences in the U.S. Her co-authored book, Betweeb Black and Brown: Blaxicans and Multiraciality in Comparative Historical Perspective was published in Fall 2024. Since joining the faculty at SMC, she enjoys teaching courses on Introduction to Sociology, Race and Ethnic Relations, Social Problems, and Latinx in Contemporary Society, and mentoring students. She has mentored SMC students in the CC2PHD and Center for Community College Partnership programs at UCLA. She also works closely with the students in the Adelante and Black Collegian programs at SMC.
