Something I loved about being part of the STEM Program.

Being in the STEM program has been a transformative journey for me, and I am deeply grateful for their role in my success. I've come to appreciate that the challenging nature of STEM degrees, coupled with SMC's high standards and supportive resources, has truly pushed me to grow. More importantly, I've learned the invaluable lesson of resilience: to view failures not as endpoints, but as opportunities to learn, heal, and advance with newfound knowledge.

A resource or support program that help you in your transition from the community college to your transfer university.

I joined a variety of clubs in my transfer university, but ultimately the people who were genuine, nice and driven to succeed despite the challenges ahead was the support group I made myself a part of. That club was the Robotics Club for me.

What is it like to now work as a software developer engineer in your field?

I majored in Computer Science, and currently in my role as a Software Developer Engineer, I realize that bachelors only scratched the surface of this field; It is always changing, there is always new technologies to adopt, and always more room to learn.

Any advice to an aspiring software developer engineer?

You have to love what you do... it reflects on projects outside school which are important.

Any STEM Shortcuts/hacks you can share?

Make small achievable goals each day to help you progress and avoid procrastination.

If you had to give advice to yourself when you first started at SMC, what would you say?

Start small. Do part time and figure out how to study to my best fit needs. STEM classes are difficult and only get harder if you don't have strong understanding of basics.

Outside of STEM and related activities, what do you enjoy doing?

Video games, practicing the guitar, reading books, hiking.
