I transferred to SMC from a different community college to proceed studying Computer Science and prepare for a Californian university transfer. My situation was complicated because not only did I begin my application very late, but I also faced numerous problems and a great deal of stress related to finding a homestay and enrolling in classes. By the beginning of September, classes were already full, so I had to rely solely on add codes—while also managing the risk of falling out of status on a student visa. But I knew one thing, SMC was definitely the place I wanted and needed to be, so I persevered.
SMC made me a more disciplined person with improved time management skill. This made me get selected by UC San Diego for Computer Science and San Jose State University for Software Engineering.
SMC influenced my life in a wonderful way. First of all, I gained all the knowledge I needed, such as about linear algebra, multivariable calculus, data structures with Java, and I took all the necessary courses for my transfer. I struggled a lot, but what I love SMC for is that they provide free tutors who are always willing to help and explain any kind of problem, even if they have never seen anything alike. Besides that, I met so many awesome people I enjoyed talking to and discussing various topics with, especially in the Computer Science club.
Special thanks to Christian and other board members of the CS club for trying to make it as enjoyable as possible for us: from a website project to RIOT games tour. Throughout this time, I learned a lot from you, guys.
Besides, I highly appreciate all the instructors I met: Professor Faridian, Professor Maldague, Professor Bene, Professor Kocharian, and others. Thank you so much for your dedication!
Take breaks. When I transferred, I experienced a huge burnout for 4-5 months and couldn't focus well on studies which ruined a lot of my plans.
