I started at SMC in Fall 2019 as an international student and transferred to CSULB after receiving an AA in Political Science from SMC!
I tell everyone how valuable it was for me to attend SMC. I had no idea what I wanted to do and attending SMC allowed me to pursue a variety of different interests I had before I figured out I wanted to pursue political science and eventually law school!
I had incredible professors, both inside and outside the political science department. Being a non-traditional, first-generation college student, I had no idea how to navigate getting through college and setting myself up for a post graduate career and many of my professors were incredibly welcoming of any questions I had even beyond their class. I also can’t thank the SMC counseling department enough. It was nerve wracking to figure out where to go after SMC and without the counseling department’s guidance, I don’t think I would be where I am today!
I would love to shoutout Professor Susan Caggiano in the English department and Cardinal Sanker from counseling!
To SMC students: Enjoy your time at SMC! Having a huge focus on transferring is inevitable but looking back, I’m glad I appreciated my time at SMC. Even now, 5 years after graduating, I still miss my time on campus.
