Being at SMC, it prepared me for what lay ahead. Being part of Adelante showed me that other like-minded Latino students also wanted to pursue higher education and it made me more motivated. The DSPS program, and more specifically, the acquired brain injury program of DSPS made sure I wasn’t left behind. I am happy to say I finished my first semester strong at CSULB with all As and made the president's honor roll!

SMC showed me that it is never too late to do what you want. Getting that edge with Public Policy with Political Science was awesome. I’m happy at CSULB where I did not feel afraid.

SMC helped me solidify that I also wanted to minor in queer studies. Why? Being someone who’s seen what growing up queer in the background can do to you sucks. I want to be a voice that shows other people being Queer, Disabled, and Latino should not hinder you. Taking classes about LGBT history and such made sure I am ready for whatever life throws at me.

I would like to say thank you to Dr. Westerband for the awesome LGBT classes I took with you.

And to SMC students: Do your work and look for a program for support. You are never alone, you just need that extra help.
