Nia PattonPhilosophy - Transfer to Stanford University

I enrolled at SMC while working in a real estate office, after attempting to go back to school a handful of times in the last decade. I worked in a few different industries after I left the school from which I initially matriculated, and SMC appealed to me as a way to comfortably reacclimate myself with being a student, given my time away. I was excited to prepare for my next step of transferring to a four- year institution to complete my Bachelor’s degree.

I had the flexibility at SMC to further my educational pursuits while being able to work and move around with my family. Additionally, SMC’s emphasis on successful transfers made me confident I was in the right place to make that next step a reality.

I was able to make and adhere to an education plan that enabled me to achieve my goals in school and beyond, while also being able to adjust my plan when necessary. Moreover, the countless resources at SMC made the transfer process much less intimidating for me as someone who was quite a few years removed from college applications.

There is not just one correct way or path to getting your education, so do not be discouraged if things are not looking exactly how you imagined them. You can do anything as long as you make a plan, work hard, and surround yourself with people who want the best for you.
