When I started at SMC, I was a scared kid with prior academic trauma from my home country. When I saw “You belong at SMC” signs, I did not understand the meaning.

During my years at SMC, I found a great academic education and compassion. I had counselors who were there every step of the way and helped me find my true path. I felt safe going to my professors for help, and even found a good community of supportive friends.

The kindness of my instructors and the guidance of all SMC staff fueled my dedication as I had never experienced. It took me a while to figure things out, but I couldn’t have done it without SMC’s supportive faculty. I had the best academic experience of my life here at SMC.

SMC was there for me in many ways, like helping with food, groceries, jobs, mental health care, and my career goals. SMC also allowed me to speak my mind on a platform and fight for what I believe in.

Now here at the finish line, I learned and gained so much at SMC and found the meaning of “You belong at SMC” — I found patience, empathy, understanding, and true belonging at SMC between the beautiful people, palm trees, and the campuses. It has been as magical as Hogwarts could be, and I couldn’t have done it without you, SMC. Thank you for everything. I graduated with high honors, but the honor was truly mine, and today I’m genuinely #ProudToBeSMC.
