What was your occupation prior to retirement?
I am not retired. I was a broadcast writer/producer (FNN, CNBC, KNBC, KCOP, KCRW) and currently am an Adjunct Associate Professor at Otis College of Art and Design.
What was your highest level of education?
Earned College Bachelor Degree or higher.
What are the top three reasons why you value the SMC Emeritus Program?
Lifelong learning at SMC Emeritus has offered me courses that stimulate my grey cells and has provided me with opportunities to acquire new skills. Similarly, Emeritus encourages camaraderie; through Emeritus I have made meaningful connections with skilled faculty and like-minded seniors who share my interests.
Pearls of Wisdom: What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?
Be diligent in maintaining a journal of people, places and events because you'll need it to remember in years to come, even if you don't think you will.
How would your advice to your 50-year-old self differ?
Maintain a sense a humor and perspective of the bigger picture, re-prioritizing as needed.
What are some of your biggest accomplishments in life?
I count maintaining lifelong friendships, being a valued member of a loving family and making the time to travel to become a global citizen among my greatest accomplishments.
The SMC Emeritus Program has helped me as a lifelong learner because the faculty and courses helped hone my creative talents.
The best part about being an SMC Emeritus student is it provides opportunities for us, as we age, to continue to be active learners.
