How long have you been enrolled in the SMC Emeritus program?
15-20 YEARS.
What was your occupation prior to retirement?
I am not retired. Currently Editor-at-Large of the Santa Monica Mirror, SPLASH Magazines Worldwide and contributor to the Desert Star newspaper all of whom publish my film and theater reviews. I have also been a travel writer and have been hosted on press trips by many countries including France, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Ireland, etc.
What was your highest level of education?
High school graduate – no college degree.
What are the top three reasons why you value the SMC Emeritus Program?
- Excellent programs - especially the Gospel & Merits programs.
- Meeting people with similar interests.
- The programs keep our aging minds sharp.
Pearls of Wisdom: What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?
Follow you heart, passion, and dreams and don't worry about the competition in any field. There's always room for one more.
How would your advice to your 50-year-old self differ?
My philosophy is still the same.
What are some of your biggest accomplishments in life?
- Raising two wonderful, healthy kids with successful careers.
- Studied acting in one of the finest school in New York City.
- Was Artistic Director of the Hyperion Theatre
- In the business world, broke the Glass Ceiling to become President & CEO of Nadel & Cohn Worldwide.
- Was the first women to create specific year-related products celebrating birthdays and anniversaries - FLIKBAKS, comprised of newsreels of specific years and 20 editions of the WHAT A YEAR IT WAS! books. Both products are still in the marketplace.
The SMC Emeritus Program has helped me as a lifelong learner because learning is one of the keys to longevity.
The best part about being an SMC Emeritus student is the opportunity to sing in two choirs and bring joy to retirement and nursing homes.
