cari ann shim sham* is a wild artist working at the intersections of dance & technology. she makes still & moving images, movement, sound, experiential interactive spaces & street art stickers. she is an edible mushroom hunter, a firm believer in science, a constant practitioner of unconditional friendliness, a dedicated proponent of anti-racism, a critic of silicon valley, a ritual worshiper of nature, a fervent feminist, an active artivist, a daily yoga & meditation junkie, and an emphatic lover of animals.
she is actively engaged in the disruption of negatively addictive crowdsourced platforms that expect user generated creative content for free in a scheme to sell advertising to manipulate & influence its users. as a curator she creates spaces that cultivate new ideas for sustainable arts practices. with a curation practice over a decade deep, her commitment offers free submission and innovative programming for new artists with a focus on dance film, vr, ar, xr, and interactive installation. she is an associate arts professor of dance & technology at nyu tisch school of the arts. www.cariannshimsham.com
Dance for Camera Week
Join the SMC Dance Department and The Broad Stage for an immersive week of workshops exploring dance for the camera. This week focuses on creating choreography for the camera, providing an overview of the history and practice of dance film, and introduction to cutting edge dance filmmakers and festivals.
