Communication, Media & Design Series Spring 2023
Santa Monica College (SMC) continues its Communication, Media & Design Series in spring 2023 with a presentation by work-life balance trainer and author Joe Robinson at the main SMC Campus (1900 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica) and a screening of the documentary We Were All Here, with a Q&A with director Dan Kwong, at SMC's new Malibu Campus (23555 Civic Center Way, Malibu). All events in the series are free and the public is invited to attend. Seating is strictly on a first-arrival basis.

SANTA MONICA CA — Santa Monica College (SMC) continues its Communication, Media & Design Series in spring 2023 with a presentation by work-life balance trainer and author Joe Robinson at the main SMC Campus (1900 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica) and a screening of the documentary We Were All Here, with a Q&A with director Dan Kwong, at SMC's new Malibu Campus (23555 Civic Center Way, Malibu).

The spring 2023 Communication, Media & Design Series events are:

Tuesday, February 21 — Joe Robinson: "Work Smarter, Live Better Work-Life Balance Training" at 2 p.m. in the SMC Student Services Center, Orientation Hall (S183). Work-life balance trainer and author Joe Robinson explains how to rise above challenging times with tools to manage demands and build attention, mental health, and resilience. Topics he will cover include how to manage pressure, multiple demands, and other people; how to refuel the chief productivity tool: attention; and how to focus that attention on life outside work to find life balance, improve wellness, and build the keys to sustainable happiness.  The event is sponsored by the SMC Associates (smc.edu/associates), SMC Communication and Media Studies Department, and SMC Design Technology Department, and SMC’s Black Collegians Program.Joe Robinson
Wednesday, April 5 — “We Were All Here: Documentary Screening and Q&A with Director Dan Kwong” at 10 a.m. in SMC Malibu Campus Room 202. Artist and director Dan Kwong will screen and discuss We Were All Here, a collaborative video project with artist Paulina Sahagun. The documentary examines the history of Santa Monica's Pico Neighborhood, the longtime home of the area's Latinx, Black, and Asian families. A Q&A and panel discussion with director Kwong and descendants of those featured in the documentary follows the screening. The event is sponsored by the SMC Associates (smc.edu/associates), SMC Communication and Media Studies Department, and SMC Design Technology Department. Part of the SMC Black History Series and SMC Social Justice Series.
