How to make an appointment

Students who are currently taking a course or have enrolled in a course from one of the following disciplines in the past year: Animation, Architecture, Broadcasting, Digital Media, Film Production Or Film studies, Graphic Design, Interior Architectural Design, Interaction Design (B.S.), Journalism, Media,  can self-book an appointment with a CMD counselor online by following the steps below: 

1. Login to Corsair Connect 

2. Locate the list of Quick Links found on the left-hand side of the portal.

3. Click "Book a Counseling Appointment"

If you are not yet a student at SMC or not taking courses at the Center for Media and Design but would like to speak with a CMD counselor about your interest in a CMD program such as: Animation, Architecture, Broadcasting, Digital Media, Film Production Or Film studies, Graphic Design, Interior Architectural Design, Interaction Design (B.S.),Journalism, Media, please contact the General Counseling & Transfer Services program via email.  You need to provide your student ID# (or indicate that you are not yet an SMC student) and phone number. Be sure to specify you are requesting to meet with a CMD Counselor.  Please use the counselingtransfer email address and Appointment Email examples below to submit your request.

Do you need access to reliable hardware or software to complete your projects? The computer lab at the Center for Media and Design is open for students enrolled in Design Technology courses on a walk-in basis.

Course Sequences 

Below you will find links to approved course maps that were designed to inform your education planning and course selections. Although design technology courses do not enforce pre-requisites, there is a specific course sequence that should be followed in order to assure you are developing the skills necessary prior to taking advanced level courses. 


General Education Patterns

If your goal is to achieve an associate's degree, you will need to complete a general education track. Which general education pattern is right for you? 

Associate Degree GE: If your goal is to complete the associate's degree and enter the workforce, this is the right pattern for you.

CSUGE: If your goal is to prepare for transfer to a Cal State University, and you began college prior to Fall 2021, this is the right pattern for you. 

CSUGE: If your goal is to prepare for transfer to a Cal State University, and you began college Fall 2021 or later, this is the right pattern for you. 

IGETC: If your goal is to prepare for transfer to UC and CSU (or just UC) , this is the right pattern for you. 


Transcript Evaluations

Would you like to know how courses you've taken at another institution can be applied to your degree progress at SMC? Click the appropriate link below:

General Education Transcript Evaluation: The evaluation will determine if the courses satisfy general education requirements for transfer to UC or CSU campuses, or for an SMC degree

Free confidential short-term individual counseling services are available to Santa Monica College students at the following satellite campuses (offered through The Center for Wellness and Wellbeing): Bundy, Center for Media & Design, and Performing Arts Campus.
