Welcome to SMC Emeritus!
Dear Emeritus Community,
Happy New Year to all! Welcome to a brand-new semester in 2026!
As we move into the new year after an incredible first 50 years of the Emeritus Program, we are eager to step into the next 50 years of this amazing program, and make 2026 a year filled with meanings and impacts that come with lifelong learning.
As Emeritus programs expanded and found new success since 2023 at our satellite campus in Malibu, we would like you, our best ambassadors, to tell your friends and family about the great things that the Emeritus Program has done for you, and encourage them to join you on this journey of wellbeing and continual engagement with the world around us through our fantastic class offerings. As you know, the Emeritus Program brings together the best of both worlds: It costs almost nothing in this age of ever-rising costs while offering the very best in Arts and Crafts, Health and Conditioning classes, Music, Literature, Human Development, and so much more.
Consider making 2026 a year of discovering new interests and friends by taking a class you have never taken before and trying it with a friend who has yet to experience the wonders of how the Emeritus Program can enrich your lives. Our team of seasoned staff is standing by to assist you.
Speaking of staff, some of you may have noticed some new faces in the 4th-floor office since the summer. To make sure the Emeritus Program is fully supported, I am now assisted by two administrators in my division: Associate Dean of SMC’s Malibu Campus Alice Meyering and Project Manager of Noncredit Programs Luis Jauregui. Both are long-time SMC veterans who are familiar with our community of students, staff, and faculty, and I want to give them a shout out for being present and being part of Emeritus. Don’t forget to say “Hi” when you stop by!
Let’s make 2026 the best chapter of our lives, and I am so glad to be here watching it unfold with you!
