How long have you been enrolled in the SMC Emeritus program?

I am faculty and have taught on and off since 2006.

What was your occupation prior to retirement?

I continue to teach art history at the college level, I have worked in magazine publishing and as an independent scholar and author.

What was your highest level of education?

Earned College Bachelor Degree or higher.

What are the top three reasons why you value the SMC Emeritus Program?

As faculty, the experience, curiosity and camaraderie of our student body at Emeritus creates a vigorous and stimulating environment for teaching and learning that is invaluable.

Pearls of Wisdom: What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

Welcome the challenge of advanced learning challenges, each area of explorations builds character and acumen.

How would your advice to your 50-year-old self differ?

Focus on what floats your boat to support and expand your enthusiasm for learning. I started a PhD at 50 so I am my biggest fan on that front.

What are some of your biggest accomplishments in life?

Leaving my country of origin, Argentina. Building an American life and then a life of study and professional development in Italy and a PhD in England. Supporting my extended family, at every level.

The SMC Emeritus Program has helped me as a lifelong learner because finding a community of learners who are my age and beyond who are filled with wisdom and enthusiasm for the classes I teach is a huge shot in the arm if there ever was a question about retiring as rest.

The best part about being an SMC Emeritus student is as faculty I enjoy my gratifying role as an ongoing student of human character, capacity and contributions since in each class I teach I a able to share who I am at the highest intellectual level, with humor, shared experiences and no grades!!!
