Free Child Care

How to Apply for Free Child Care

Who?

Full-time SMC student parents may be eligible to receive free child care for infants, toddlers, and preschool-age children while attending Santa Monica College.

What?

Students that qualify may select a high-quality, licensed and accredited child care option near campus or their home. This program pays the provider 100% of child care costs.

Note: Santa Monica College does NOT have an on-site child care facility. We work with child care providers to pay for 100% of childcare costs.

Where?

We can help you identify high-quality, licensed and nationally accredited Child Care programs that are convenient for you. You can choose a program that is near campus, your home, or work. Whatever is the best fit for you and your child!

How?

Eligibility Requirements...

To qualify for the Free Child Care Program, you must meet each of the following eligibility requirements:

  1. You must be receiving a Pell Grant or be Pell Grant eligible based on the FAFSA Application. A FAFSA must be completed and already on file with the SMC Financial Aid Office.
  2. You must be enrolled full-time, with a minimum of 12-units per semester.
  3. You must maintain good academic progress each semester (GPA of 2.0 or higher).

Even if you do not qualify for free childcare, there may be other low-cost options available to you. Contact us to learn more.

Why?

Because SMC cares about supporting our students! We know that our students will be more successful if they know that their families/children are taken care of as well.

Are there limits to childcare coverage within this program?

No. If you need full time, part-time, extended hours, etc. child care coverage, this program has you covered!
