FAQ
There are a number of resources available to help you find licensed and accredited child care providers:
Contact Connections for Children
Use the provider search tools on the websites for the National Association for the Education of Young Children or National Association for Family Child Care sites.
The Santa Monica Malibu School District’s Early Learning Division has sites near the SMC campus that can accept children ages 3-5. Contact Gary Huff at huff_gary@smc.edu for SMMUSD contact information and an enrollment form.
child care providers in California must be licensed by the Department of Social Services - Community Care Licensing Division. This ensures that programs meet minimum safety and operational guidelines for providing care. Accredited programs go through a separate application and review process to prove that they offer the highest quality child care, far exceeding minimum guidelines. Licensed and accredited programs are considered high quality.
Our CCAMPIS Program covers 100% of the costs of child care. This includes any application fees, materials fees, tuition, etc. Your provider will invoice the college monthly and we will send payment directly to them. Even if you do not qualify for the CCAMPIS program, you should complete an application form. There are other child care programs available on campus.
That’s up to you. You can access child care to cover your class time, study time, work hours, or anything else that will help you achieve your academic goals. We cover part-time, full-time, and extended care.
If you drop or fail classes and fall below 12-units you may lose your eligibility to continue in the free child care program. Contact Gary Huff at huff_gary@smc.edu to discuss your situation.
If you were enrolled in 12-units the prior semester and are enrolled in winter or summer classes, you can continue accessing child care during these months. If you are enrolled in all 4 sessions (summer, fall, winter, and spring), you can access year-round child care without a break in service.
No problem. We can cover the costs of child care for all of your dependent children while you are enrolled in school.
Limited funds are available to cover before and after school care costs for elementary age children on a first-come, first-served basis. We only work with public school programs.
