SANTA MONICA, CA — The Santa Monica College (SMC) Fashion Program presents its annual student fashion show — LA Mode 2025 — at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 20, in the Core Performance Center (CPC) Courtyard (adjacent to the Quad) on the SMC Main Campus (1900 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica). “Style, Substance & Sustainability” is the continuing theme for this year's show.

Admission is $25 ($20 college students with I.D.). The Mocha Carpet begins at 4 p.m. with sponsor giveaways and the chance for alums, current students, and fashion industry guests to connect and mingle.

The show’s eclectic mix of casual, cocktail, club, and avant-garde styles will feature 25 collections, reflecting each designer’s future aspirations. The event, carried out by the Fashion Show Production students, is led by SMC fashion professors La Tanya Louis — LA Mode Show Producer and Collections Director — Lorrie Ivas, SMC Fashion Advisory Board-Industry Judge Director, and Wynn Armstrong, Technology Consultant.

SMC photography students will be “shooting” the show and the designers’ look book photos, under the direction of SMC Photography Professors Josh Withers and Ed Mangus. Designer interview videos were produced and edited by media and communication students under the direction of Communication and Media Studies Department Chair Redelia Shaw, Professor Gail Fetzer, and Broadcast Tech Manager Thoren Jorgensen. SMC’s photography, media, and communication students will be covering behind-the-scenes content up to show time. SMC cosmetology students will be creating the looks for hair and make-up, under the direction of Brandon Ceballos.

The global collections — reflecting the talents of students who came to SMC from the Los Angeles area, across the United States, and around the world — were developed by students as part of their two-year fashion studies at SMC.

Industry professionals — from designers, stylists, and costume designers to retailers — will judge the collections. Among them are Advisory Board Members and SMC alums, many now offering internships themselves, a true success story. Industry judges will pre-evaluate the collections “up close” prior to the show on June 20, and select winners in categories that include marketability, creativity, sustainability, technical achievement, and outstanding collection, all being announced live at the event.

The show is sponsored by Jeff Abrams, founder of contemporary clothing line Rails. Twenty fashion scholarships were also awarded by Abrams, as well as donations by Tukatech, businesses, members of the Santa Monica community, and LA fashion industry supporters.

The evening will also feature the presentation of the eighth annual Style and Substance Award, honoring nationally acclaimed fashion designer Kevan Hall, an SMC Fashion Advisory Board member, and the co-founder of the Black Design Collective, a nonprofit established to create scholarships, workshops, and mentorships for young designers pursuing careers in fashion and costume design.

The SMC Fashion Program — available through the SMC Photography and Fashion Department chaired by Professor Josh Sanseri — offers Associate degrees and certificate programs in both Fashion Design and Fashion Merchandising.
