SMC Emeritus Gallery to Host Opening Reception for 2026 Annual Student Photography Exhibition March 5
SANTA MONICA, CA — The Santa Monica College Emeritus Art Gallery announces its 2026 Annual Student Photography Exhibition. The free exhibition opens on March 5 and runs through April 24 in the Emeritus Art Gallery at 1227 Second St., Santa Monica. The opening reception for the exhibit will be held on Thursday, March 5, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the gallery, located on the first floor of the SMCEmeritus Campus, 1227 Second St., in downtown Santa Monica. Parking is available next door in Santa Monica Public Parking Structure No. 2. Gallery hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The exhibition and opening reception are free.
The opening reception will be hosted by Emeritus Art Gallery Curator Jesse Benson. “This is the first on-campus Emeritus Student Photography Exhibition in six years,” said Benson. “The 2020 show closed prematurely due to the pandemic, so we established an online model. Moving forward, the beloved annual photography event will rotate yearly between in-gallery and online-only presentation. This year’s show offers a long-anticipated opportunity to celebrate our talented Emeritus photography community in-person at Emeritus Gallery. Hope to see you at the opening reception event.”
The group exhibition features a remarkable variety of recent photographic works created by 32 students. The students are: Dian Andrews, Kathleen Battersby, Terry Brown, Dorli Burge, Angela Castellano, Caroline Gerstley, Jim Gerstley, Trude Haas, Kathleen Higgins, Jude, Marilyn Kabakov, Josephine La Rosa, Jebbie Lavoie, Carey Lundin, Fran Lyness, Nol Martín-tungpalan, Cindy Sanchez Mattson, Elaine Maxwell, Howard Meibach, Wendy Miller, Regina Pally, Allan Popelka, Doris Power, Linda Rosman, Karen Sandler, Ganna Shneydina, Nancy Rae Stone, Sandra Strength, Michael Telerant, James Wang, Shifra Wylder, and Yvonne Yao.
The widely praised SMC Emeritus program — founded by Santa Monica College in 1975 as a noncredit program to serve the lifelong learning interests of older adults — offers more than 120 noncredit adult education classes and special programs that serve more than 3,000 students each year.
