Seismograph
SMC has a seismograph on its main campus located on the first floor of the Mathematics and Science Building. This instrument detects and records vibrations felt at the Earth's surface, such as those caused by earthquakes. The type of instrument used is a Raspberry Shake 3D Seismograph and is capable of capturing vibrational motion moving North - South, East - West, and vertically.
The live data from our seismograph can be viewed online here:
Raspberry Shake has an app for you to download called ShakeNet Earthquake Monitoring. With the app you can check in on our station on your phone.
To find and view our seismograph on the app:
- Download either the Apple Version ot the Android Version of the app.
- Find our sensor by zooming in on Santa Monica or by searching for S6093, which is our seismograph.
