Santa Monica College Theatre Arts will hold auditions for the upcoming production of The SpongeBob Musical. Students from local schools are welcome to audition.

What to Prepare
• 32-bars from a musical theatre or pop song
• Sheet music in the correct key (an accompanist will be provided)
• 1 minute comedic monologue
Students interested in auditioning are encouraged to attend.
CHARACTERS
SpongeBob SquarePants
Description:
The endlessly optimistic fry cook at the Krusty Krab. Childlike enthusiasm, big heart,
and the unlikely hero who tries to save Bikini Bottom from a volcanic eruption.

Sandy Cheeks
Description:
A brilliant squirrel scientist from Texas who lives underwater in a dome. Tough, resourceful,
and inventive.

Patrick Star
Description:
SpongeBob’s best friend. Sweet, loyal, and not very bright. Often unintentionally
philosophical.

Squidward Q. Tentacles
Description:
SpongeBob’s grumpy neighbor and coworker. A frustrated artist who believes he deserves
fame and recognition.

Sheldon J. Plankton
Description:
Tiny villain who owns the Chum Bucket and constantly schemes to steal the Krabby Patty
formula.

Description:
Plankton’s wife. A literal computer who is often smarter and more practical than him.

ms. mayor of bikini bottom
Description:
The frantic and highly theatrical leader of Bikini Bottom. She spends most of the
show trying to manage the public panic about the impending volcanic eruption. Big
personality, comedic timing, and strong leadership energy. Often played with high
political drama for humor.

Mr. Krabs
Description:
Owner of the Krusty Krab. Loves money almost as much as he loves his daughter Pearl.

Description:
SpongeBob’s anxious boating school teacher. She is permanently stressed because SpongeBob
is her worst student and a constant danger behind the wheel. Nervous energy, lots
of comic panic

Foley Artist Fish
Description:
A comic character who creates live sound effects onstage. They follow the action and
physically produce noises for what is happening in Bikini Bottom. The humor comes
from the visible, theatrical way the sounds are made. The character often breaks the
fourth wall and highlights the stagecraft of the show.
