This course surveys the various elements of the theatre, providing a basis for evaluating productions.

This course covers the history of world theatre and dramatic literature with emphasis on the relationship of the theatre to cultural development.

This course consists of some of the great works of 20th-century drama. Theatre Arts 7 is the same course as English 55. Students may earn credit for one, but not both.

TH ARTS 10A, Voice Development for the Stage • 3 units

Prerequisite: None. Transfer: UC, CSU

TH ARTS 16, Advanced Stage Movement 1 unit

This course provides advanced training in awareness and development of the body for creation and communication in theatre. This course is intended for students interested in special study topics in technical theatre, either in the theatre laboratory (shops) or on actual theatre productions. Students work in various assignments on the production crews. (Students may work as design assistants, crew heads, master technicians, and crew in the areas of scenery, properties, costumes, lights, sound, make-up, and special effects.)

This course contains the development of acting skills and explores several non-realistic acting styles through the performance of prepared scenes and culminating in a final public performance. This course contains the development of acting skills and explores several non-Realistic acting styles through the performance of prepared scenes and culminating in a final public performance. This course explores comedic acting skills through the application and development of progressive comedy techniques. Through acquired knowledge of the genre and analysis of plays, this course fosters the development of acting techniques. Students will rehearse and prepare material and learn about the processes of comedy acting for the live theatre. Attendance of theatre productions for which students must purchase tickets is required.

TH ARTS 56, Advanced Audition Workshop • 4 units

Prerequisite: Pre-enrollment audition required. Transfer: CSU

On-site exploration and application of progressive audition techniques for students hoping to advance to higher levels of education and performance goals. Students will prepare audition material and learn about the process of auditioning at the more advanced levels of theatre and the education system. The course will culminate with a final public performance.
