SMC Community Teach-In Fall 2025

Hope in Hard Times: Moving Forward Together

Sponsored by the Global Citizenship Committee

Thursday, October 30, 2025- Hyflex- 1-3pm

Apply by Tuesday, October 21

As a campus, students, faculty and staff are coming together for a Teach-In.

What's a Teach-In?

It is an educational, interactive forum where people come together to focus on and discuss a topic.

What's the Teach-In theme?

The theme of the Teach-In is Hope in Hard Times: Moving Forward Together. It is a nod to the current GC theme, Mobility, Migration & Movement, as well as a reflection of the challenges we face today and the hope to which we cling. The GC Committee chose this theme to encourage participants to speak on present-day injustices and/or the individual and collective actions of hope. We invite you to participate in the Teach-In by tapping into your personal, academic and/or professional knowledge. The theme is open to a presenter's interpretation and understanding.

What's the purpose of a Teach-In?

A Teach-In is meant to be practical, participatory, empowering, and action-oriented. In 1965, the first Teach-In was held at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. Its focus was on the U.S. government's involvement in Vietnam.

When is the Teach-In?

The Teach-In will be held on Thursday, October 30 from 1-3pm in HSS 263. The event will be hyflex, which means that you can participate both in person and virtually.
