Summer 2019 Study Abroad Program

Forest Kindergartens and Beyond: Outdoor Early Education in Denmark

This summer join ECE professors Catherine Miller and Jeanette Lopez in Copenhagen, Denmark exploring the educational, historical, and cultural aspects of the region.

As active observers students will be immersed in Danish forest kindergartens working and learning side by side children ages 1-6 and their teachers in the forests outside of Copenhagen. On a city tour of Copenhagen you will visit Rosenborg Castle which houses 400 years of splendor, art treasures and the Crown Jewels. Enjoy an exciting boat cruise around the harbor.  Have a magical time at the Tivoli Gardens, an amusement park that contributed greatly to Walt Disney's vision for Disneyland and which has been in operation since 1843. Tour Kronbo rg Castle, immortalized as Elsinore in William Shakespeare's play Hamlet, and watch Shakespearean actors perform interactive scenes for visitors.

This trip is a once in a lifetime opportunity for anyone interested in working with children and families, forest and outdoor education, nature, and Danish culture and history.
