Join Professor Taneka Washington in Madrid, a city rich in culture, history, and art. Madrid is home to some of the most important art collections in Europe and include Prado, Museum Reina Sofia, the Thyssen gallery, and National Archaelogical Museum. Madrid is in a great location to visit multiple culturally rich cities nearby such as Toledo, Segovia, Alcalá de Henares, and Salamanca. If you've never travelled to Europe before, Madrid is a great gateway city as a first introduction to Spain. For those who have traveled to Europe, Madrid offers an amazing traditional Spanish experience with a perfect mixture of culture, food, and architecture.
*Cost: $2,330 per person, does not include flight to/from Madrid, ground transportation to/from airports, class fees for Global Studies 35, lunch and dinner. Breakfast is included.
Course Description
Global Studies 35- Field Studies Abroad- Madrid- 1 unit
On this field study, students will discover the beautiful city of Madrid. Students will learn about the art history and cultural traditions and explore locations of unique interest.
Faculty Biography

Professor Taneka Washington
Professor Taneka Washington was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. She received her Master's degree in Art History from California State University, Los Angeles and her BA from Occidental College. For the last 7 years she has taught various Art History courses, primarily online, at numerous universities and community colleges. She has volunteered with the J. Paul Getty Villa and was an intern at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, Italy. Taneka loves to travel and take photographs of artistic and historical monuments with Ellie, her plush elephant, and shares them in hopes of inspiring other people to travel. She's a firm believer that travel is a great way for people to learn about other cultures and to become more culturally sensitive. So far, Taneka has traveled to 36 countries, many of those countries repeatedly.

This program is on a first come, first served basis. There are 24 spots available. Once you complete your application, you secure your spot by submitting your non-refundable deposit. Your final acceptance into the program will be based on your ability to provide proof of your airline ticket by the deadline.

Eligibility Requirements
- Be a current SMC student and take the offered courses. If you are not currently an SMC student, you may apply online,
- All participants must be 18 years old by December 17, 2025.
- Have a valid passport.
- Student must not have any disciplinary infractions.
- U.S. citizens do not need a visa to travel to Madrid. If you are a permanent resident or SMC F-1 visa student, please contact the Consulate of Spain to see if you need a visa.
- Pay all program fees and tuition by the deadline. If you are a financial aid recipient, check with the Financial Aid office about using financial aid to pay your tuition and fees.
