National HSI Week

SMC is a designated Hispanic Serving Institution, and we celebrate this week (Sep 8 - 12)! As we celebrate National Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) Week, we reflect on the vital role that HSIs play in advancing educational equity and fostering inclusive excellence for Latinx/e students across the nation. At Santa Monica College, we are deeply committed to supporting and empowering our Latinx/e community, ensuring that each student has the resources and opportunities to thrive.

What does it mean to be an HSI?

Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) is defined as an institution of higher education that—
  • is an eligible institution; and
  • has an enrollment of undergraduate full-time equivalent students that is at least 25% Hispanic students at the end of the award year immediately preceding the date of application
