Internship Program

If you are an international student studying on an F1 student visa, please make sure to review Info for F1 International Students.  Please speak to an immigration specialist in the International Education Center to obtain CPT eligibility letter and to evaluate eligibility for remote internships. 

If you are not an international student, please go to Step 2.

Processing your Internship Application Form and providing you an add code takes time. We recommend that you submit a complete Internship Eligibility Application Form at the beginning of the Internship Program enrollment period (see Internship Enrollment Dates below), therefore allowing you the opportunity to potentially start counting your internship hours the first week of your course term. Remember there are fewer weeks to complete the same required number of hours during the winter or summer sessions than the fall or spring semesters and internship hours do not count until you are enrolled in the internship class and the term (session/semester) has begun.

Once you have determined you meet the Internship Program eligibility requirements and that you are able to complete the required number of hours for the Internship course you would like to enroll in, please submit the Internship Eligibility Form.

Please note that you will be required to log in with your SMC email account/username (not your ID number) and password. Complete and submit the form. Forms time-out after 45 minutes.

If you cannot complete it, and the form has been enabled to save your progress, click the “Save Progress” button at the bottom of the page. You can return to it later by signing in at www.smc.edu/myforms. The "MyForms" portal  shows forms you have submitted and those you have in progress.

1. Click on “Pending/Draft Forms”.
2. Identify the form you would like to resume and then click on the “Complete Form” button on the right side of the screen.
3. To review forms you have submitted in the past, click on “Forms History.” Then click on the icon for PDF or for the HTML view.
4. Once you have completed the missing questions/items, click the “Submit” button.
5. Once submitted, you will be prompted to view and download a PDF version of the submitted form. You can always see it, too, by login in at the MyForms portal.

After submitting your Internship Application, it may take up to 5 business days for the Career Services Center to review your form and email you the next steps. Messages are sent to your SMC email address (accessible via Corsair Connect and not through Canvas). Again, consider the Internship Application Form processing time and how many weeks you have to complete the course when determining if you should enroll in the Internship Program. There are fewer weeks to complete the same required number of hours during the winter or summer sessions versus the fall or spring semesters. 

Once your application has been reviewed by the Career Services and we have reached out to you. It can take an additional 3 to 5 business days to complete the remaining part of the application and issue you an add code.  Please check the Internship Program Enrollment Deadlines for more information on when add codes are available per term. It is important that you plan accordingly, considering this processing time.

**F-1 status students must receive an updated I-20 with CPT authorization from the International Education Center before starting internship hours.**

The Spring 2026 application period is closed. No late applications will be accepted.

The Summer 2026 enrollment period for the Internship Program will begin Friday, June 5, 2026 and end at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026.   

You must apply by July 10 to have an opportunity to get an add code for a Summer 2026 internship class.

**Please note:

• No applications will be accepted after the Friday, July 10, 2026 deadline.
• Internship hours must be completed by Friday, August 14, 2026.
• The Internship Program application process (including receiving an add code) may take 7 to 10 business days so please plan accordingly.  You cannot begin your internship or counting hours towards your internship without an add code from the Internship Program Coordinator.  The timeline can vary based on how quickly you and your internship supervisor respond to emails, as well as the Coordinator’s schedule, so staying responsive can help keep the process moving forward.

The Fall 2026 enrollment period for the Internship Program will begin Friday, August 21, 2026 and end at 5 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2026.   

You must apply by October 16 to have an opportunity to get an add code for a Fall 2026 internship class.

• DEADLINE TO REQUEST TO ENROLL IN COUNSELING 90D IS FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 18, 2026 BY 5 P.M.
• No applications will be accepted after the Friday, October 16, 2026 deadline.
• Internship hours must be completed by Friday, December 18, 2026.
• The Internship Program application process (including receiving an add code) may take 7 to 10 business days so please plan accordingly.  You cannot begin your internship or counting hours towards your internship without an add code from the Internship Program Coordinator.  The timeline can vary based on how quickly you and your internship supervisor respond to emails, as well as the Coordinator’s schedule, so staying responsive can help keep the process moving forward.
