San Diego State University (SDSU), founded in 1897, is the oldest higher education institution in San Diego and a prominent member of the California State University system. With over 39,000 students enrolled as of fall 2024, SDSU offers 97 bachelor's, nearly 90 master's, and 25 doctoral degree programs. The university has achieved R1 status, placing it among the top research institutions in the U.S. SDSU's main campus spans 560 acres in an urban setting, and it is recognized as a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting its diverse student body. The university's athletic teams, known as the Aztecs, compete in NCAA Division I sports. SDSU continues to expand its facilities and programs to meet the growing demand for higher education in the region.
