Tournaments

2019-2020 Calendar Draft

The exact tournament calendar can change depending on budget and student interest.

Regardless, students in Com St 22 should expect to attend (either as competitor or observer or judge) 3-4 tournament weekend days.

Sunday opportunities are highlighted for those students with Friday and Saturday religious observances.

Spring 2020

PSCFA Spring Champs, Palomar College (110 miles South of SMC). Friday and Saturday, with overnight hotel (dependent on budget) for those who compete both days. Friday NPDA, 10:30am to 9:00pm.  Saturday IPDA, 8am to 7:30pm. Or, we might only do the Sunday as an IE tournament event, with no overnight.

Mar 27 or 28 or 29

SMC Intramural IPDA Debate Tournament. Friday or Saturday or Sunday, at SMC, likely 1pm to 6pm.

April 5-12

Phi Rho Pi national speech and debate tournament for community colleges. Albuquerque, NM. Only those who compete on the team in the previous Fall are eligible, and likely only those who have shown great effort in their events, great attitude on the Team, and some success in local tournaments.

April 25

PSCFA Cool Off, Mt. San Jacinto College, (95 miles East of SMC). Saturday IPDA or NPDA. 9am to 6:30pm. Sunday IE. (8am to 6pm). Great first debate tournament for new debaters, and great opportunity for Team seniors to work the other side of the round as a judge.

May ??

Possible SMC debate tournament. Maybe only intramural. Maybe invitational to just a few other local teams. Maybe three different debate styles in one tournament, with each debater doing all three. Friday, Saturday or Sunday
