The Modern Languages Lab, located in Drescher Hall, Room 220, is a free computer lab designed to support language students in developing their skills, completing assignments, and attending Zoom lectures. The lab offers access to a variety of free language learning tools, including Mango Languages.

Guidelines

The Modern Languages Lab is reserved for students currently enrolled in a Modern Languages and Cultures course. We may monitor student activity to support language studying, practice, and relevant coursework.
Please be courteous to fellow students, tutors, faculty, and staff.
No eating or drinking is allowed inside the Modern Languages Lab.
Students should read and become familiar with the Santa Monica College Student Computer Use Policy.
Students should not unplug, move, or modify any hardware, software, materials, or furniture in the Modern Languages Lab.
Computer workstations will log off users automatically after 15 minutes of inactivity. Remember to save your work (Ctrl+S) and log off when done.
Santa Monica College and the Modern Languages Learning Center are not responsible for lost or missing items.

Where is the Modern Languages Lab located?

The Language Lab is in Drescher Hall, Room 220. Enter through Drescher Hall, Room 219.

Who may use the Modern Languages Lab? What if I'm not enrolled in a language course?

The Modern Languages Lab is reserved for SMC language students. Faculty may also reserve the lab space for their classes.

Students who are not enrolled in a language course may visit one of the many computer labs offered at SMC.

Do I need an appointment to use the Language Lab? What if a class is using the computer lab?

You do not need to make an appointment to use the Modern Languages Lab. You are free to come and go anytime the lab is open. If a class has reserved space inside the lab, you may still use an available workstation; however, the class will have priority.

What if I need help while using the lab?

Can I work on my coursework and assignments inside the Modern Languages Lab?

Yes, students are encouraged to work, study, attend language course Zoom lectures, and practice their language skills in the Modern Languages Lab. The lab is equipped with microphones, headphones, and webcams for your convenience.

Does the Modern Languages Lab have accessible workstations?

Yes, the lab has several raised desktops.

Friday: Closed
Saturday: Closed
Sunday: Closed

Hours are subject to change. The Lab is closed during all campus holidays, breaks, and during the Summer and Winter intersessions.
