Thank you for your interest in attending the Education/ECE Interview Day on May 30 from 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This is the perfect opportunity for your organization to meet our motivated and talented SMC students while at the same time, securing employees for part-time, full-time or limited contract jobs before the summer and/or school year begins. Interview Day provides your organization the opportunity to interview SMC students interested in a career in Education and/or Early Childhood Education while gaining visibility and maximizing recruiting potential.

There is no employer registration cost to participate in Interview Day. However, your organization must register to participate in Interview Day. Employers/organizations who are not registered and confirmed to attend Interview Day will not be allowed access to this event. For more information on how to register, please see below.

Interviews will be held at the SMC Bundy Campus (3171 S. Bundy Drive, Santa Monica, CA 90405) on May 30 from 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Setup time is from 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Please note that you are not obligated nor expected to stay for the entire time. You are able to arrange interviews during this time based on qualified applications received. We welcome your participation.

For this event, we will provide 1 table, 2 chairs, and 2 visitor parking day permits. Due to space limitations, the maximum number of representatives allowed per registration/employer is 2.

Employer Requirements to Register and Participate in Interview Day

  1. To attend this event, employers must first create an employer account through HireSMC. In HireSMC, employers have the ability to post job descriptions for students to review and apply. No staffing agencies will be permitted to register since the SMC Career Services Center staff provides job placement assistance.

  2. Employers must also provide

    • Properly zoned local business address where supervised work will be conducted;

    • Valid office phone number, web address;

    • All required equipment for the student to use;

    • An hourly rate, minimum wage or above for paid positions;

    • And a valid business license and carry liability insurance

  3. Only those employers offering paid full-time, part-time and/or contract/substitute) positions related to the field of education and/or early childhood education are invited to register to attend Interview Day. Interview Day is not an opportunity to recruit for interns, volunteers and/or other unpaid positions.

  4. Once you have registered for an employer account through HireSMC, please complete the following Interview Day Event Registration Request Form. Once we have processed your Request Form, you will be granted access to the "On-Campus Interviewing" feature of HireSMC.

Employers interested in participating in Interview Day are encouraged to create an account through HireSMC, complete the Interview Day Event Registration Request Form and post their job descriptions as early as possible. Registration will be accepted on a first-come, first served basis until we reach capacity. A waiting list will not be generated once capacity is reached. Please note, due to limited space, an email confirmation with additional details of the event will be sent to all confirmed Education/ECE Interview Day participating employers. Only confirmed employers are able to attend Interview Day.


How Does Interview Day Work for Employers?

  1. Employers create and are approved for an employer account through HireSMC. Approvals are sent to the email associated with your HireSMC account. If you have not received an email confirmation after 3 business days, please contact the SMC Career Services Center at 310-434-4337.

  2. Employers complete the following Interview Day Event Registration Request Form.

  3. Employers, once you have received confirmation of your participation from Ann Marie Leahy or Joan Kang, log into HireSMC to access the "On-Campus Interviewing" feature. This feature is available on your main employer account page. The "On-Campus Interviewing" feature enables employers to view, post and edit jobs, check resume/application submissions and schedule interview times for Interview Day. If the "On-Campus Interviewing" feature is not visible, please request access by contacting either Ann Marie Leahy at Leahy_Annmarie@smc.edu or Joan Kang kang_joan@smc.edu

  4. Employers post a job description under HireSMC "On-Campus Interviewing" feature.

  5. Students review all job descriptions from organizations participating in Interview Day and submit their applications and resumes through HireSMC from May 10 to May 23, 2019

  6. Employers review applications as received and select students they wish to meet and interview for Interview Day.

  7. Employers notify selected students through HireSMC to sign up for an interview timeslot scheduled for May 30 at SMC Bundy Campus (3171 S. Bundy Drive, Santa Monica, CA 90405).

  8. Students receive an email notification through HireSMC to sign up for an interview

  9. Employers receive notification through HireSMC of confirmed interview times

  10. Employers attend Interview Day on May 30 from 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at SMC Bundy Campus (3171 S. Bundy Drive, Santa Monica, CA 90405). Setup time is from 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

How to Post a Job Description for Interview Day?

  1. Employers must submit job descriptions for this event through the "On-Campus Interviewing" feature.

  2. Select "Post a New Job." These jobs will only be posted for Interview Day.

On-Campus Interviewing.

To participate in SMC Interview Day on May 30

  • Under "On-Campus Interviewing" click "Post a Job for On-Campus Interviewing"
  • Post Education/ECE related Jobs - Including all jobs under one submission by May 5
  • Students review and apply for jobs from May 10 to May 23
  • Employers access student applications from May 10 to May 23 and schedule interviews for May 30 through hireSMC
  • Interview SMC students at our Bundy Campus on May 30 from 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Post a New Job.
Click "Post a New Job." These jobs will only be available for Interview Day.


How to View Candidate Submissions/Resumes

  1. Log into your HireSMC account

  2. Select "Post, Edit, or Repost OCR Jobs: Check Submissions and Schedules" under the heading "On-Campus Interviewing"

  3. Under the title of your job, select "Submissions." This will allow you to view the resumes of the applicants who have applied for your job posting.

  4. To view/download the resumes of the applicant who have applied for your job posting, click the paper icon and another window/tab will appear.

View Candidate Resumes and Schedule Interviews.
To view candidate applications, invite candidates to interview and/or view your interview schedule, under "On-Campus Interviewing," select "Post, Edit, or Repost OCR Jobs: Check Submissions and Schedules."

View Student Resume Submissions.
Click "submissions" to view the resumes of the applicants who have applied for your job posting.

Download Student Resume Submissions List.
To view/download the resumes of the applicants who have applied for your job posting, click the paper icon and another window/tab will appear.


How to Invite a Candidate to Interview

  1. Log into your HireSMC account

  2. Select "Post, Edit, or Repost OCR Jobs: Check Submissions and Schedules" under the heading "On-Campus Interviewing"

  3. Under the title of your job, select "Submissions." This will allow you to view the resumes of the applicants who have applied for your job posting.

  4. To invite a student to interview for a position at your organization, change the student's status to "Interview" and click the "Notify Candidates" button. An email will be sent to the candidate to sign into HireSMC and schedule an available appointment.

  5. If you have successfully invited a student to interview, the next screen you will see is the "Interview Notification" screen stating that the candidate was emailed to schedule an interview time.

To view candidate applications, invite candidates to interview schedule, under "On-Campus Interviewing," select "Post, Edit, or Repost OCR Jobs: Check Submissions and schedules."

View Student Resume Submissions.
Click "submissions" to view the resumes of the applicants who have applied for your job posting.

Invite Student for Interview.
To invite a student to interview for a position at your organization, change the student's status to "Interview" and click the "Notify Candidates" button. An email will be sent to the candidate to sign into HIRESMC and schedule an available appointment.

Interview Request Success.
If you have successfully invited a student to interview, you will receive this screen notification.


How To View Candidates Who Have Been Notified to Schedule an Interview

  1. Log into your HireSMC account

  2. Select "Post, Edit, or Repost OCR Jobs: Check Submissions and Schedules" under the heading "On-Campus Interviewing"

  3. Under the title of your job, select "Submissions." This will allow you to view the resumes of the applicants who have applied for your job posting.

  4. Under "Pending Notifications," you will be able to view the candidates who have been notified to schedule an interview. These are students who have yet to schedule an interview time.

  5. You may also view a candidate's resume, by clicking the paper icon next to the candidate's name.

To view candidate applications, invite candidates to interview and/or view your interview schedule, under "On-Campus Interviewing," select "Post, Edit, or Repost OCR Jobs: Check Submissions and Schedules."

How To Notify Candidates You Have Elected Not to Interview

  1. Log into your HireSMC account

  2. Select "Post, Edit, or Repost OCR Jobs: Check Submissions and Schedules" under the heading "On-Campus Interviewing"

  3. Under the title of your job, select "Submissions." This will allow you to view the resumes of the applicants who have applied for your job posting.

  4. If you are not interested in interviewing a candidate, change a candidate's status to "Not Selected" and click the "Notify Candidates/Update Status" button. On HireSMC, students will notice a change in their status to "Not Selected."

  5. If you have elected not to interview a candidate and successfully notified a candidate, the next screen you will see is the "Interview Notification" screen, stating the changes you have made have been recorded on the candidate's On-Campus-Interview Status Page.

Not Selected Notification.
If you are not interested in interviewing a candidate, change a candidate's status to "Not Selected" and click the "Notify Candidates/Update Status" button. On HireSMC, students will notice a change in their status to "Not Selected."

Not Selected Success.
If you have elected not to interview a candidate and successfully notified the candidate, you will receive this screen notification.


How to View Candidates Not Selected for an Interview

  1. Log into your HireSMC account

  2. Select "Post, Edit, or Repost OCR Jobs: Check Submissions and Schedules" under the heading "On-Campus Interviewing"

  3. Under the title of your job, select "Submissions." This will allow you to view the resumes of the applicants who have applied for your job posting.

  4. Under "Candidates Not Selected," you will be able to view the candidates and resumes of who you have selected not to interview.

To view candidate applications, invite candidates to interview and/or view your interview schedule, under "On-Campus Interviewing," select "Post, Edit, or Repost OCR Jobs: Check Submissions and Schedules."

Not Interviewed List.
Under Candidates Not Selected: You can view the candidates and resumes of who you have selected not to interview.


How to View Candidates Who Have Scheduled an Interview

  1. Log into your HireSMC account

  2. Select "Post, Edit, or Repost OCR Jobs: Check Submissions and Schedules" under the heading "On-Campus Interviewing"

  3. Under the title of your job, select "Submissions." This will allow you to view the resumes of the applicants who have applied for your job posting.

To view candidate applications, invite candidates to interview and/or view your interview schedule, under "On-Campus Interviewing," select "Post, Edit, or Repost OCR Jobs: Check Submissions and Schedules."

How to View/Print Your Interview Day Schedule

To view candidate applications, invite candidates to interview and/or view your interview schedule, under "on-Campus Interviewing," select "Post, Edit, or Repost OCR Jobs: Check Submissions and Schedules."
