About the Child & Adolescent Development Program
The Child and Adolescent Development program prepares you for careers working with
children, youth, and their families in social work, community-based settings, in preparation
for elementary or secondary education services, counseling, developmental psychology,
and nonprofit agencies.
The AA-T in Child and Adolescent Development provides a comprehensive understanding
of a broad range of human development domains, including social, cognitive, physical,
and culture from birth through adolescence. The degree provides broad undergraduate
preparation for students interested in child and adolescent care, as well as a variety
of youth-related social service careers.

Early Childhood Lab School
Santa Monica College and the City of Santa Monica, in a unique partnership, have built
an innovative early childhood laboratory school to serve the community while enabling
teachers in-training to develop crucial expertise under the guidance of leading education
professionals.

Transfers
Education and Early Childhood Education is a career education program that does not
directly lead to transfer. Students planning to transfer should talk immediately with
an Academic Counselor to discuss what SMC courses will help you transfer.
