Promise Chromebook Project FAQs
Only verified Promise students in their 1st or 2nd year are eligible.
No. The contract is mandatory to receive the Chromebook. Completion is how you receive
the confirmation number which is required at pickup.
You will go in-person to the SMC Bookstore on the main campus. Just show your confirmation number and school or government ID to the staff at the north side pick up window so they can give you your computer.
The SMC Bookstore is open Monday-Thursday 8a-12p & 1p-3p.
Note: The SMC Bookstore pick up window is closed from 12p-1p. You can call ahead to verify their office hours at 310-434-4258.
- Connect to the SMC_WIFI network using your SMC username and password
- Configure these additional settings:
- ESSENTIAL SETTINGS:
- EAP Method = PEAP
- Certificate= Do Not Check
- Identity= SMC\lastname_firstname
- ESSENTIAL SETTINGS:
- Sign in with your SMC student Google account login (aka SMC username and password)
- Update Chromebook using the UP ARROW in the bottom right corner of the home screen.
No. Only the SMC Promise student who completed the contract can pickup the requested
computer. We may allow for special circumstances involving physical disabilities on
a case-by-case basis. Please email the Welcome Center at WelcomeCenter@smc.edu for details.
You can email WelcomeCenter@smc.edu to try to retrieve it. Just make sure to include your name, ID number, and a picture
of your photo ID.
If you are in need of a laptop, you may request a loaner from the SMC Bookstore by following these steps:
- Speak with a professor, faculty, counselor or staff to inform them that you need a laptop for your schoolwork. They will need to email your name and SMC ID number to the Bookstore@smc.edu stating that you are in need of a loaner laptop.
- After you confirm that the professor, faculty, counselor or staff has sent the email to the SMC Bookstore, you will need to contact bookstore directly to inquire on how to pickup your loaner laptop.
