Accelerating Online CE Pathways@SMC

SMC received the Improving Online CTE Pathways one-year grant to develop fully online credentials to help prepare students for the workforce. By the end of Spring 2020, SMC will have five fully online certificates in the Administration of Justice, U/X, Web Design, Interior Architectural Design, and Architecture. Additionally, SMC will offer fully online degrees for the first time!

Here’s a variety of ways SMC Faculty can get involved:

Online Teaching Winter Institute 

Friday, January 31 & Friday, February 7
8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
SMC Campus

Intended Audience 
• Faculty currently teaching online who want to improve their course & online teaching
• Faculty interested in teaching online for the first time

@ONE Course Reimbursement

Faculty who complete an @ONE online course between July 1, 2019, and June 30, 2020, are eligible for reimbursement. We have funding for 70 @ONE classes.

Professional Learning Community: Teaching Online

All SMC faculty are now invited to PLC Online Teaching sessions. There will be events several times a month on Fridays and weekday evenings over Zoom covering various topics and Gerry Clark will be leading these sessions. Get Your Course Reviewed & Learn More about Teaching Online

SMC faculty are invited to participate in the Fall or Spring to get their online course reviewed by another faculty member and attend two events to learn more about online teaching and learning as a part of our Professional Learning Community.

Course Review Requirement

The course you are submitting for review should be from a Career Education program or IGETC, CSU GE or local SMC degrees requirements.


  • Get one of your online courses reviewed by another faculty member.. The course should be one you are currently teaching or a shell that you have ready for a future term.
  • Have two meetings with your course reviewers
  • Make the changes to your course based on the review in a Canvas sandbox and someone from the review team will validate them.
  • Attend two Professional Learning Community events about online education (some will be on campus, some will have a Zoom option).
  • Another option is to substitute one of the PLC events with taking an @ONE Class (the 10-10-10 class, Humanizing Online Teaching, Assessment or Equity & Culturally Responsive Teaching). You will need to pay for the @ONE class and get reimbursed (see info below).
