EOPS students may qualify for application fee waivers that help reduce the cost of
applying to transfer institutions. These waivers are built directly into the UC and CSU application systems, meaning you do not need a separate paper waiver in most cases.
EOPS provides support for up to twelve (12) total application fee waivers, including:
4 CSU applications
4 UC applications
4 private/independent college applications
How UC and CSU Fee Waivers Work in the Application
California State University (CSU) Fee Waivers – Cal State Apply
CSU application fee waivers are requested directly inside the Cal State Apply application.
When you begin your CSU application in Cal State Apply, you will:
Complete your personal information section
Enter your income and household size information
The system will automatically determine if you qualify for a fee waiver based on federal
income guidelines
If eligible, you will see a message that says you qualify for a CSU application fee waiver
The application fee will automatically change to $0 for eligible campuses
You must accurately report your financial information for the waiver to be applied
The waiver is tied to your eligibility within the system, not a separate form
You can receive waivers for multiple CSU campuses (up to 4 supported through EOPS)
You may still meet with an EOPS counselor to review your situation
In some cases, additional documentation or support may be provided depending on your
EOPS eligibility and transfer plan
University of California (UC) Fee Waivers – UC Application
UC application fee waivers are built directly into the UC Application system.
When completing your UC application:
You will reach a section called “Fee Waiver”
The application will ask for information such as:
Household size
Annual income
Family financial situation
Based on your responses, the system will automatically determine if you qualify for
a UC application fee waiver
If eligible, the application will display a message confirming your fee waiver approval
The application fee will be reduced to $0 for eligible UC campuses
You do NOT need to submit a separate UC fee waiver form if you qualify within the
application
Be sure your financial information is accurate and complete
UC fee waivers typically cover up to 4 campus applications through EOPS support
EOPS counselors can help you review your UC fee waiver section before submission
You can also receive support in understanding income guidelines and completing the
application correctly
