What’s up Corsairs?!

My name is Cecilia Jeong, and I’m honored to serve as your A.S. President for the 2023-2024 school year. First: as an advocate of stepping up, speaking up, and challenging the status quo in a rather jolly way, I assure a healthy space for perspectives all around, no matter how controversial they may be. A fun fact about me is that I have a teddy bear named Andy who accompanied me through life’s trials and errors!

My immigration journey to the U.S. from S. Korea had a lot of obstacles—financial and legal turmoil, becoming undocumented, living independently as a minor, and receiving a GED to work full-time (at a café, bookstore, clinic, etc.) while I was a part-time student at Santa Monica College. Learning more about our diverse and accommodating college community has been a joy, and I eventually shifted my lifestyle to a full-time student who sought engagement with open-access higher education at the advocacy level.

I’ve served as the A.S. Director of Publicity during Spring 2022 (with media and events like the Earth Week Lorax Movie Screening), then as the A.S. Director of Basic Needs during the 2022-2023 school year (with events concerning the Bodega and the Basic Needs Program)! This year, I hope to facilitate more satellite campus incorporation, basic needs support, and focus on our equity and diversity mission among a plethora of other values the A.S. Board upholds as a team.

My winning area of interest (major) is mathematical economics, but I allow some ruminance with letting my life flow in “any way the wind blows!”
