Telephones

Technology is available to make telephone communication available to individuals who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. Some hard-of-hearing students can use a regular telephone if it has a volume control. Other individuals may use VRS (Video Relay Service) where the Deaf individual calls via video, through a Sign Language Interpreter who interprets between the Deaf person on the video and the hearing person on the other end of the call. SMC has a videophone available for Deaf students. It is located in the Library, Room 253. Students must receive an authorization card from a DSPS staff member and provide that to the Library staff each semester, prior to use.
