As an Age-Friendly University, Santa Monica College has proudly educated adult learners and older adult learners in every instructional program. One of the largest is our Emeritus lifelong learning program. In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of SMC’s Emeritus program, our Golden Anniversary of the 1974-75 academic year launch of our tremendous and free older adult lifelong learning program, we are launching the first of its kind Fifty Over 50 campaign!
Imagine a Forty under 40 list, but flipping it on its head. This is an exciting way to recognize and honor individuals over the age of 50 who have made significant contributions in various fields professionally, and in the community, celebrating experience, impact, leadership and contributions. We want to celebrate people who are awesome, and who may not have been lauded or recognized with awards before in their lifetime.
- To be a meaningful way to celebrate the achievements and potential of individuals over 50 while inspiring others to continue striving for excellence and impact at any stage of life.
- To highlight fifty people over age 50 this year.
- To celebrate the unsung heroes that are 50+, those who may not necessarily be famous, wealthy or well-known from their working life.
